KS-03: Steve Rose Pulls out of Race Against Moore

In a personal email Rose sent to friends and supporters, newspaper editor and GOP opponent to Rep. Dennis Moore has pulled out of the race for health reasons.

In the email Rose says:

“It is with deep regret and tremendous disappointment that I must report to you today that my G.I. doctor has pulled the plug on my Congressional campaign.

As you may know, I have suffered from Crohn’s Disease for more than 40 years. It has been dormant for the past ten. In the past 10 days, however, under the extraordinary stress of the campaign, I have had a major flare-up. I won’t go into the gory details of inflammatory bowel disease, but suffice it to say I have lost a lot of blood and seven pounds in that short period. The doctor says if I keep it up, I can look forward possibly to surgery.”

I had initially called this race a suicide mission more meaning it as hyperbole… but its disappointing when someone is pushed out of a campaign simply from reasons like this. I’m sure Rose had a lot to contribute to the debate, but we’ll look forward to his columns in the future.

We wish Rose well and look forward to him continuing on as the great JoCo Sun writer he’s always been.
