Late yesterday, news broke that former KS-04 Congressman (‘76-’94) and Clinton USDA Secretary Dan Glickman was not renewing his lucrative contract with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Glickman, whose contract expires in September 2010, said…
“I’m going to be 65 next month, and it just struck me this is a good time to really move on back into the world of either academia, public service or nonprofits.”
At Forward Kansas, we’ve been pondering a possible run by Glickman for either Kansas Governor, since KDP Chairman Larry Gates bowed out last Friday, or the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sam Brownback, who is leaving the post in 2010 to seek the office of the Kansas Governor.
Hat-tip to Dave Helling of the Kansas City Star’s Primebuzz, who, earlier this morning, opined that Glickman may be eying a possible run for Brownback’s Senate seat. At 3:00 pm this afternoon, the Primebuzz updated the post with a comment from Glickman to the Los Angeles Times on the possible run, saying…
“That’s probably not a very realistic option for me, [but] I never rule anything out,” he said, noting he’d like to serve in the Senate but would not want to have to raise the millions of dollars needed for a campaign. “We’ll see if there’s a groundswell from Kansas.”
Now we’re left wondering just what kind of “groundswell” would encourage Glickman, the nine term Congressman from Wichita, to seriously entertain the run. How about this, Mr. Glickman?: This is your chance, assuming current KS-04 Congressman Todd Tiahrt wins the Kansas GOP’s nomination for the Brownback Senate seat (we know, tough assumption), to seek an ultimate revenge on the man who booted you from your own Congressional seat 15 years ago.
