Pot Calls Kettle Black: Missouri Governor Mocks Intelligence of Kansans

Democratic Missouri Governor Jay Nixon evidently thought he was being cute this week when he mocked the intelligence of Kansans. jaynixonAs reported by the Wichita Eagle’s Editorial Board Blog, WE Blog:

“…Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has poked fun at the intelligence of Kansans. When asked this week whether an expansion of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Dental School could end up training dentists for Kansas, Nixon dismissed the notion that some graduates might want to practice in Kansas. “But it’s so obvious when you cross the state line,” Nixon said as the 100 or so in the audience laughed and applauded, the Kansas City Star reported. “People just start talking slower.”

This is an interesting development from a man who can’t figure out who’s on first in his administration when failing to notify the public of exceedingly high levels of E. coli in the water at the popular tourist attraction, the Lake of the Ozarks. Seems the Nixon administration failed to notify the public of prohibitively high levels of crap in the water at the Lake of the Ozarks prior to the Memorial Day weekend and then tried to cover it up.

But, I won’t rely on Nixon’s first-year follies as Governor to back-up which state’s got the brains (and far superior education regime). Instead, I’ll just rely on No Child Left Behind’s Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP, standard: 87 percent of Kansas schools made AYP in 2008-2009, whereas only around 47.6 percent of Missouri schools meet the AYP same target.

In the end, I think I’ll stick with WE Blog commenter “nunyer,” who said:

“Nixon doesn’t want to admit the truth: a dentist can’t flourish in Missouri because Missourians just don’t have that many teeth left in their heads.”

And that goes right along with an old joke my Father still tells to this day:

“You know the toothbrush was invented in Missouri. If it were invented anywhere else, they would’ve called it a teethbrush.”

Here’s the thing, Governor. We may all be progressives, but in this state, we’re Kansans first.
