Every Republican in KS-03 Interested at Run for Congress

After the news broke this morning of KS-03 Congressman Dennis Moore’s retirement after this term, it seems as though every conceivable Republican has expressed some interest and/or intent to run.  According to the Kansas City Star’s Primebuzz, “for sure” or possible candidates in the KS-03 Republican primary include:

  • Former State Rep. Patricia Lightner, who was declared before today’s announcement, remains a candidate in the race;
  • Kansas House Appropriations Chairman Kevin Yoder;
  • Nick Jordan, the former Kansas State Senator who ran against Moore in 2008 and was handily defeated;
  • Charlotte O’Hara, who ran unsuccessfully twice for the Johnson County Commission against Annabeth Surbaugh;
  • Greg Musil, an Overland Park attorney and former Legislative Assistant to former U.S. Senator Nancy Kassebaum Baker, who ran against Moore for the KS-03 Congressional seat in 2000; and
  • Kansas State Senator Dr. Jeff Colyer.

Smells like some political opportunism brewing in KS-03.

    Thanks for your kind remarks. Usually, I am trying to keep the residents informed on my blogspot. But I assure you, my goal is to represent all the people-not just some of them. That is why I refer to myself as a statesman--I am not a politician.

    By engaging with all political people, I get some great ideas. And to those that do, I give them credit publically. I learned long ago, the more people that give you input increases one's chances of coming up with solutions. If I only rely on what I know, that would make me a egomanical narcisist. I am humble enough to admit I do not have all the solutions.

    I hope that helps you as you go forward. For example, I listened to Sam Brownback, our next governor. He is no dummy. He had some very good ideas that I heard today. I kept notes and the ideas of his that I agree with, that are in the best interests of the public, now are mine. It pays to listen sometimes. And I probably would do a little better, the better I listen. I am getting better at listening. Thanks again.

    Dear Sir, despite your negative comments rregarfding me and my character, I will not do the same as you sir. I may very well have to be representing you. For the most part sir, I hope you do not contact me or write to me ever again if you have no solutions and only whine and complain about the Dem Party having no candidates worth anything in the 3rd District.

    Many of your fellow bloggers that actually know me understand that I was a KS Young Democrat, a KYD delegate and a democratic legislative intern. As well as the parlimentarian for the KS Democractic Disability Caucus. What have you done sir? I don't remember anything you have done for the local community, Kansas or the United States.

    Impress us all with all you have done for all of us.
  • Hi Thomas

    I'm a big fan of the 1st Amendment -- not just for the freedom to speak, but because I want the right to be able to hear what others have to say.

    My guess is that you know that the perception of being ignored is not a conspiracy. It's simply a matter of making yourself heard and your presence felt. Adding your voice to public comment is an excellent way to make me, and others, know exactly how committed you are and where you would lead us.

    I can't speak for anyone at Forward Kansas, but I would always welcome reading your thoughts and reactions to anything here.

    Maybe a quick check of the records at the Federal Election Commission will clearly indicate how biased and afraid the KC Star and the JOCO Sun are of my campaign. They failed to omit what many of my friends in the Dem Party already have known for months. That I am the best GOP candidate to replace Moore. The newsprint is just afraid more people will find out so they keep omitting that fact in newsprint. Get the facts at www.fec.gov. Or alternatively, at my blog, http://schererforyourcongressman.blogspot.com/.

    To my dem friends, I will still act in your behalf regardless of your party affilation.
