Stand Up For Kansas Children

As mentioned here on Forward Kansas over the past week, here and here, because of revised revenue projections, it is more than likely that our public schools are going to take yet another hit in their ability to provide a quality education for our children.

KSDE-logoKansas is currently looking at a $460 million shortfall to the previously balanced 2010 budget.  As responsible adults (and voters) we need to realize that if we continue to push the budget problems on our kids, the worse off we are going to be going forward.

Governor Mark Parkinson is planning on announcing his plan within the next few days to balance the budget before the new legislative session begins in January.  I wanted to take a moment with this post to ask those of you who truly care about our children’s future to contact the Governor’s office and express that we can’t put this burden on their shoulders anymore.  There are other ways to make up the deficit, ways that don’t end up punishing our kids.

If you feel as I do, here is the contact information for Governor Parkinson’s office:

  • Is an incredible debt we're passing onto our kids, even with more money for schools, really helping them or our economy? Every U.S. citizen now has a debt of $54,263. And what about the unfunded liabilities per citizen? A staggering $344,740. Does anyone have that much money to pay for our share of the debt or liabilities? When will we learn to live within our means?
