Here at Forward Kansas, we’ve developed a legislative strategy that we think is pretty good, as far as getting people in Kansas and a few other red states the health care they need. It’s pretty simple, too.
Attach the Stupak/Hatch amendment to the public option.
If states want to opt themselves out of the public option, they must allow insurance companies to cover abortions as they would under just the Hyde amendment. This would lower out of pocket medical costs for women that need an abortion and have it covered under their existing insurance. This would cause R’s to have to decide what they want to do more: keep Kansas families in bankruptcy or uninsured, or control women’s reproductive options.
So, Sen. Pilcher-Cook and Rep. Landwehr – what about it?
