A Call to the Women of Kansas to oust Brownback

in General, Governor

I dare to ask the women of Kansas to stand up and use our voting power to remove Senator Sam Brownback from Kansas Government. By his own actions Brownback has shown he cares nothing for important women’s issues. He voted against the Preventive Services Coverage Ammendment  that would expand women’s access to preventive services such as mammograms. He also voted against the Equal Pay Bill, a gender pay equity law, and the Lily Ledbetter Pay Act that would redefine discriminatory salaries. Instead Brownback focused on anti-abortion amendments

Brownback’s participation in the anti health care prayercast was proof that he is just another religious radical posing as a politician. Reminiscent of “God hates gays” Fred Phelps and Dr. Tillers murder by Scott Roeder. Brownback represents Kansas as a hot bed for the Religious Right and the crazy antics that go along with any radical religious group. If you combine Brownback’s voting record and his radical religious views, I would stop to ask if Brownback thinks of women as baby making, cheap labor, that have little need for proper health care.

I foresee that the state of Kansas with Brownback as Governor as very bleak, with no funding for education or health care. But somehow miraculously there will be plenty of money to handout to rich corporations and plenty of protection for gun toting religious radicals and their ideals. Brownback is out of step with the values of the everyday Kansan.

Women make up just over 50% of the Kansas population.  We have the numbers, we have the power! Do we give it a voice? I call the women of Kansas to protect our bodies, to protect our families, and to protect the way of life we want for all Kansans. Brownback must go.
Senator Sam Brownback

In the words of President Obama, "He's a jackass."

I've met Brownback a time or two, had chats with Todd Tiahrt and Jim Ryun, and I've spent some time with a lot of Democratic politicians. The difference I've noticed between the parties, at least in Kansas, is that Democratic politicians are likable. Jim Slattery's a great guy to have a beer with. Kathleen Sebelius is one of the friendliest people I've ever met. Sam Brownback is a pompous jackass.

Hell, Brownback won't even comment on whether Uganda should execute people for being gay, something that sane people can all agree, regardless of their moral views on homosexuality, is a bad thing.

The problem is that most people in Kansas don't know the real Sam Brownback. Even my mother, a good Democrat (despite the fact that she attends Topeka Bible Church) describes him as a "good man," rather than the monster he actually is. As Jeff Sharlet explains, "The example Brownback's Chief Legislative Director gave me, he said he would rather a Thai prostitute die of AIDS than have her soul imperilled by using a condom."

Problem is. Just how do you get this message out to all women in Kansas?
  • And let's not forget Mr. Brownback's vote AGAINST a bill that will prevent the government from working with contractors who deny victims of sexual assault the right to bring their case in court:
